Where are the Bros off to next? Let's find out!
Brocals offers free minibus trips in and around London. Our bros train to drive the minibuses with Hackney Community Transport, plan the trips, then take turns driving the bus and exploring the capital and its surrounds.
Quarterly Brocals Socials take the boys further afield, with holiday parties and day trips to the coast, Essex and Kent via coach. These are offered at a low cost of £15 per return ticket. Brocals and volunteers alike are encouraged to invite family and friends for a cracking day out.
Join us for a spook-tacular visit to Chislehurst Caves in Kent! These ancient caves are carved by human hands out of the chalky rock that runs beneath Chislehurst and all the way into Blackheath. Dating from Druid / Roman times, they have housed many during WW2; have played host to the Rolling Stones; have been the location for several episodes of the TV show Dr Who and are allegedly haunted by a ghostly figure murdered by her husband. We’ll then settle our spirits with a nice cup of tea at a local hostelry.
Mr Brightside is a man. Mr Brightside is a good man. At least he thinks he is. We think he’s a d*ck.
After a sold-out show at Bright Fringe Festival, Nick Gilbert brings this hilarious, honest and cutting comedy about masculinity and mental health to Poplar Union.
We’ll take a coach trip to Rochester for the Christmas Markets and Dickensian Christmas Parade. You’ll uncover a feast of Victorian delights, costumed characters and parades, and can join in with the open air carol concerts and street plays. £15 per return ticket, paid in advance.
Brocals Meetup Monday is happening a bit later this month - on a Wednesday, in fact - so that we can celebrate CHRISTMAAAAAAAAS. Pull a cracker, have a boogie, wear a stupid jumper and get mildly squiffy on eggnog - the Brocals Festive Funstravaganza will have it all!
The party will take place at the Whitmore Centre in Hackney - watch this space for more info.
Who doesn’t love a trip on London’s most idiosyncratic river crossing, the Woolwich Ferry? As part of the Totally Thames festival running in September, we’ll join guide Rob from Footprints of London in looking at three pieces of engineering that have influenced East London history. (The walk is five miles and involves steps, however, so please ensure that your GP says it’s safe for you to exercise.)
We had such an epic day out in Broadstairs in for the Dickens festival that we’re at it again. We’ve charted another 50-seater coach to the coast, this time to Hastings for the Old Town Festival. There will be winkle tossing! There will be tours of abandoned pubs and dusty old church towers! There will be Guess The Weight of the Cheese! And we can all visit the fancy food stalls and the posh art gallery or whatever you fancy really, it’s your day - just meet us back at the coach at 5.
Book your place by calling Anne-Marie on 020 8533 0951.
Diggerland. It’s like, a sort of theme park? Where you get to drive full-size diggers. FULL. SIZE. DIGGERS. And JCBs and things. I know right? SICK. We have ten spaces available. First come, first served.
Hit me up for bookings, stat. 0208533 0951. Hackney residents (male) (aged 50+) only. #sorryboutit
Brocals Meetup Monday on the Second Monday of Every Month is a Thing that is going to Start Happening on 8th July 2019. (No, I Don't Know Why The Capitals Are Happening. Clearly they are Also a Thing.) U7 Lounge, N1 5FB. 11am - 1pm. For Bros, Volunteers, & Potentials. Be There!
We’ve chartered a 50-seater coach and we’re going to ride it all the way to the COAST and then chill all day and then RIDE BACK because that’s how we roll. This isn’t just for bros - it’s for wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, hubbies, partners, grandchildren, aunties, uncles, neighbours, chosen family and whichever other members of the community you care to mention. GET IN! RSVP to join obvo - we have 50 return tickets going cheap (£15 each.) Book your place by calling 020 8533 0951.
Even bros get the blues, so today’s steering group meetup suggests some ways of handling them. First up Valentina Giovanni will be offering some BROGA - no-bull yoga moves designed with dudes in mind (so no chanting or legs-behind-the-head today, Satan). Then Leanne and Katrina from Talk Changes will be sharing some bro-friendly strategies for handling low mood and anxiety. Finally, we’ll all end up with a group hug—-JUST KIDDING! — manly handshakes all round, before heading off into the Hackney sunshine with a renewed lust for life. See you there!
For our next Brocals Local trip, we're hopping on the Overground to Kew Gardens. We've scored free entry for our bros (normally £17.60 for seniors or £19.80 full price). We'll visit the Palm House and tour the orchids nursery. If you're a male Hackney resident aged 50 and over, sign up now to secure your place!
A new year is always a time to think about making positive changes – and volunteering is a great way to start. Meet inspiring local charities (including Brocals!) looking for friendly Hackney residents to give their time to good causes and discover how you can get involved.
From baking bread to fixing bikes, there are hundreds of different roles on offer across the borough. Whether you can give an hour a week or an hour a month, VCH can help you find your ideal role. Taking place from 12pm, you can pop in on your lunch break or on your way to pick up the kids.
This is a free event, open to all, so children are welcome, plus refreshments – put the date in your diary, then pop by and meet us!
To find out more about volunteering and how to get involved, visit www.vchackney.org, or follow Volunteer Centre Hackney on Twitter @VCHackney or on Facebook.

We’re going to visit the Royal Air Force Museum in Colindale on 30th Nov 2018.
We will explore the fascinating story of the RAF and of the thousands of ordinary servicemen and women who have served in it, and whose invaluable contribution has shaped the world that we live in today.
Want to come along? Email the Brocals Coordinator at email@example.com or ring City and Hackney Carers Centre at 020 8533 0951 to book your place.
Due to to size of the minibus you must register first in order to attend.
